The LRC extends its thanks to all students and faculty who displayed their generosity in donating to our Food For Fines campaign.

The donated food items in support of the CSI Cares Food Drive totaled almost 400 pounds and many students were very generous, often dropping off more items than required to clear their fines.

Thanks again for your support!

Where’s my print job? Or, Answer to a common printing problem

Filed under: Uncategorized — conestogalrc @ 3:32 pm

You may not have realized it yet, but there are new Student Printing Guidelines in place this semester! One of the most common reasons print jobs do not turn up at the printers in the LRC is that the guidelines have been overlooked.

Remember, you can only print TWO copies at a time, and no more than 25 sheets (i.e 25 one-sided or 50 double-sided pages) in one print job. In an effort to promote conservation, students have been allotted 1500 pages per semester and you can check your current print balance by clicking Start-Run and typing balance in the run line.

For more details on the Student Printing Guidelines, visit: http://www.conestogac.on.ca/studentsvc/computersvc/printing.jsp

Halloween by the Numbers

Filed under: holidays, news, resources — conestogalrc @ 11:46 am

So you think statistics are dull? Well the folks at Statistics Canada have gathered together some fun, interesting, and morbid stats for Halloween in Canada.

How many children in Canada are of trick-or-treating age? What are some scary place names in Canada? How many funeral directors work in Canada? Are there witches and warlocks in Canada? Answer these and more on the StatCan site!

Statistics Canada: Hallowe’en by the numbers: http://www42.statcan.ca/smr08/smr08_094_e.htm

For more help on how to use Statistics Canada and E-Stat for your own research, come in and visit the staff at the Information Desk!

You say ‘Hello’. I say ‘Salut’.

Filed under: Uncategorized — conestogalrc @ 1:02 pm

Diversity enriches a community and Conestoga students certainly are diverse and they love to share their variety. The question “How do you say hello?” was written on the whiteboard at the LRC’s entrance and it didn’t take long for students to fill it up with the many ways they say hello from “Allo” to “Sat sri akaal”.

Hello on whiteboard

Now that you know how to say ‘hello’ in many languages, why not stop by the LRC and say ‘Hi’ to the staff?

Researching off-campus? Don’t forget your PIN!

Filed under: news, resources — conestogalrc @ 1:59 pm

As we move further along into the semester, students are digging into the many projects and assignments they’ve been given. You don’t have to do all of their research in the LRC though, you can access the LRC’s electronic resources right from home!

Access the online databases, e-books and other e-resources by signing in with your student ID number (or client ID for faculty) and your four digit PIN. If you don’t have a PIN yet, visit the Circulation desk in the LRC to get one. If you are a returning student, after you’ve gotten this year’s sticker from the registrar’s office drop by the LRC to have your PIN reactivated!
