Over 400 pounds of food donated!

Filed under: fines, news — conestogalrc @ 4:51 pm

The LRC extends its thanks to all students and faculty who displayed their generosity in donating to our Food For Fines campaign.

The donated food items in support of the CSI Cares Food Drive totaled almost 400 pounds and many students were very generous, often dropping off more items than required to clear their fines.

Thanks again for your support!

Halloween by the Numbers

Filed under: holidays, news, resources — conestogalrc @ 11:46 am

So you think statistics are dull? Well the folks at Statistics Canada have gathered together some fun, interesting, and morbid stats for Halloween in Canada.

How many children in Canada are of trick-or-treating age? What are some scary place names in Canada? How many funeral directors work in Canada? Are there witches and warlocks in Canada? Answer these and more on the StatCan site!

Statistics Canada: Hallowe’en by the numbers: http://www42.statcan.ca/smr08/smr08_094_e.htm

For more help on how to use Statistics Canada and E-Stat for your own research, come in and visit the staff at the Information Desk!

Researching off-campus? Don’t forget your PIN!

Filed under: news, resources — conestogalrc @ 1:59 pm

As we move further along into the semester, students are digging into the many projects and assignments they’ve been given. You don’t have to do all of their research in the LRC though, you can access the LRC’s electronic resources right from home!

Access the online databases, e-books and other e-resources by signing in with your student ID number (or client ID for faculty) and your four digit PIN. If you don’t have a PIN yet, visit the Circulation desk in the LRC to get one. If you are a returning student, after you’ve gotten this year’s sticker from the registrar’s office drop by the LRC to have your PIN reactivated!

Macs in the LRC

Filed under: news, resources — conestogalrc @ 1:31 pm

The LRC now has six Apple computers for student use. They include Safari and Firefox browsers for internet searching as well as Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint for schoolwork.

Please note that these Macs are not networked and so students will not be able to save to (or retrieve from) their G Drive. Bring a USB flash drive to save your work!

The LRC Webpage is online! In addition to the links to the databases and subject guides available before, we now have a page for Research Help that includes online tutorials to guide you through the research process and using online databases. We also have created a page specifically For Faculty with lists of teaching and learning resources and other info of interest to faculty.

If you have any questions, comments, or feedback on the new site, please notify any member of the library staff or email lrcinfo@conestogac.on.ca.
